A standards organization that develops voluntary technical standards, including test methods used for ceramic tile and other building materials.
ASTM International describes itself as an organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products and systems. Some of its standards cover tests for ceramic tile and building materials, which is why you may see ASTM mentioned on tile data sheets. A homeowner in Nashville does not need to read the standards, but knowing that tests exist helps when comparing products.
We are an independent tile company and are not part of ASTM International. When a product lists test results, we help you understand what they mean for your room, such as wear, water absorption or traction. The official website is the place to read about the standards themselves.
